Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that the first group of hostages held by Israeli military forces will be released as planned by Sunday.
According to Reuters, deliberations over the final approval of the deal were prolonged and unclear, taking hours to reach a resolution.
In a statement following these discussions, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed that the release will proceed under the proposed framework introduced by Qatar and other mediators, with the agreement of Israel and Gaza.
“Pending approval by the Security Cabinet and the Government, and the agreement taking effect, the release of the hostages will be implemented according to the planned framework in which the hostages are expected to be released on Sunday,” part of the statement read.
