President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
The appointment, which takes effect on January 16, 2025, tasks Mr. Gyamfi with spearheading the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a flagship initiative outlined in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, announced the appointment, underscoring the administration’s dedication to economic transformation and sustainable development through the GoldBod initiative.
The Ghana Gold Board, a key priority for the Mahama government, will operate under the supervision of the Minister for Finance. Its mandate will include the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources to ensure maximum benefits for the nation.
Additionally, the GoldBod will focus on formalizing the small-scale gold mining sector and providing vital support services to enhance the industry’s growth and efficiency. This initiative is central to the government’s broader agenda of economic revitalization and wealth creation for Ghanaians.
