Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has expressed deep concern over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) unexpected defeat in the just ended 2024 general elections.
Speaking in a post-election review, on an Accra based TV station, he admitted that the outcome of the elections was unforeseen and has left the party with critical questions about its future.
“It’s a very devastating loss, I have insisted that this is a loss we didn’t see coming. When you go into an election you win or lose but to lose by this margin, it was quite shocking” he said.
Citing an example from previous elections he noted that when the current president Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo beat the president-elect John Dramani Mahama in 2016 with one million votes it was historic and unimaginable.
“In fact, very few people could have predicted that we could have a repeat of that in the very near future especially as early as eight years later and for it to almost double” he added.
He disclosed that the defeat has caused the party to do some retrospections to figure out what exactly went wrong to help them correct their mistakes and come back stronger in the years ahead.
