Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, has conceded the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In a statement signed by him, the NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate reaffirmed the party’s respect for the choice of the Ghanaian electorate and vowed to reflect on the outcome to build a more resilient campaign for the future.
“The 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections resulted in a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This was not the outcome we, in the NPP, envisaged; but we respect the verdict of the Ghanaian people. To Ghanaians, we have heard you clearly and with humility we accept. We will work with you to get it right,” part of the statement read.
NAPO accepted the disappointment felt by NPP supporters but emphasized the importance of introspection to understand and address the factors that influenced the party’s electoral outcome.
He thanked God for bringing him far and his party for the honor and opportunity given him to serve them and the country in general.
He also revealed that discussions have already begun within the party to analyze the results and identify areas for improvement and come back better.
“I am confident that we will emerge stronger and bounce back to win the trust, confidence, support and affection of Ghanaians” he emphasized.
