The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has called for constructive dialogue as a solution to the recurring issue of post-election violence in Ghana.
He emphasized that addressing these incidents require a forward-looking approach rather than revisiting past events, which he argued often hinders progress.
He stressed the importance of focusing on the current challenges and crafting measures to prevent their recurrence. He noted that lessons from previous incidents should guide the nation’s response, ensuring a decisive and united stand against any actions that undermine Ghana’s democratic values.
He advocated for clear communication to the public, condemning electoral violence and reinforcing the message that such acts have no place in Ghana’s democracy. Political parties, he suggested, must take responsibility for educating their members and supporters about the importance of upholding peace, irrespective of electoral outcomes.
He stressed on the collective responsibility of political parties, government institutions, and citizens in fostering a culture of peace and respect for democratic principles.
