President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed government’s determination to adapt to the digitalization era, which includes the Ghanaian travel passport.
Speaking during the launch of the upgrade of the Ghanaian passport to a chip-embedded passport, President Akufo Addo stated that, the chip embedded passport is not just a travel document but a symbol of progress, resilience and readiness to embrace the future with confidence and determination to meet global trends and standing.
According to him, the chip-embedded passport would provide Ghanaians with secured and efficient means of travel.
President Akufo- Addo mentioned that, the upgrade from biometric to chip embedded passports is designed to meet the International Civil Aviation Organisation Standard as well as safeguard national identity.
‘’This is not just about catching up with the rest of the world, it is about leading with innovation. The chip embedded passport represents the pinnacle of the journey and it embodies cutting edge technology, designed to enhance document security, safeguard national identity and meet the standards of the international civil aviation organization’’.
He noted that, the innovation behind the upgrade of the biometric passport to a Chip embedded passport is a crucial step towards curbinh identity fraud among other fraudulent activities regarding the travel document.
‘’At its core, the new passport is a pledge to protect the identity and dignity of every Ghanaian. With the advanced biometric features securely embedded in a microchip, it is impossible to temper any forgery. This innovation is a crucial step in curbing identity, theft and eliminating fraudulent access to Ghana’s travel document.’’
