Biden signs pardon for felonies committed by son

The President of the United States has issued an official pardon to his son who was charged to face sentencing for two criminal cases.

Biden, in a recent statement explained that Hunter (son) had been ‘singled out’ and referred to his case as a ‘miscarriage of Justice.’

Reports indicate that Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to tax charges earlier in September, and was found guilty of being an illegal drug user in possession of a gun in June – becoming the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime.

President Biden’s decision to grant a full and unconditional pardon to his son marks a significant reversal from his earlier stance. Just two months ago, in September, the White House press secretary had stated that Biden would not issue a pardon for his son, emphasizing the President’s commitment to allowing the justice system to operate independently.

However, on Sunday evening, Biden announced the pardon, citing concerns about political interference. He expressed his belief in the justice system but argued that “politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice.” Biden added, “From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted.”

Meanwhile, President – elect Donald Trump making comments on the pardon expressed concern for individuals who were charged to face jail term since January 2021 or expressing their dissatisfaction with the legislative system in America.

The failure of this pardon to extend to these individuals serves as a premise for Trump’s claims of Hunter Biden’s pardon being an ‘abuse and miscarriage of Justice.’
