The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended its decision to limit the number of accredited media houses allowed at collation centers on December 7. Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Bossman Asare, announced the suspension during the “Graphic National Development Series” held in Accra.
The decision follows discussions with the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA), which had expressed concern over the directive.
Dr. Asare assured that further consultations would be held to develop a new policy on media access to collation centers. He clarified that the initial directive was not intended to restrict media coverage but to ensure effective management of the collation process. Speaking at the event, Dr. Asare emphasized that the EC values the media’s critical role in promoting free and fair elections.
He highlighted the Commission’s goal to either improve or sustain the 79% voter turnout recorded in the 2020 elections. He reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to organizing a successful election and urged all eligible voters to participate actively on Election Day.
