The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for his effective leadership during Tuesday’s parliamentary session.
The party, through its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, praised Bagbin’s management of the proceedings, describing it as a demonstration of exemplary parliamentary leadership.
In a statement, the NDC acknowledged Bagbin’s maturity and balanced approach, emphasizing that his leadership reflects a commitment to protecting both the legislative body and the nation’s interests. The party noted that his efforts have strengthened Parliament’s credibility and expressed confidence in his ability to maintain the institution’s independence.
The praise follows Bagbin’s announcement on Tuesday of the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings. This decision came after a tense session marked by heated exchanges between Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC over which caucus holds majority.
During the adjournment, Bagbin briefly informed the House that he had received a directive from the Supreme Court instructing him to halt his earlier ruling that declared four parliamentary seats vacant. However, he provided no further details on the Court’s communication, leaving MPs and observers uncertain about the implications.
The Speaker also mentioned that while the House had sufficient members to conduct business, it lacked the numbers required to make binding decisions.
