Communications team member of Asante Kotoko, Seth Nii Darko has dismissed reports that the club will be paying for using the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium as their adopted home venue.
The Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium was reportedly given to Asante Kotoko for a rate of GH₵10,000 per game after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was closed down by the National Sports Authority to make way for renovations.
Reacting to this news on Happy Sports, Seth Nii Darko said he was disappointed to hear the media run with such news without verification.
“It is not true that we are paying GH₵10,000 cedis per game to use the Len Clay Stadium. Media houses I respect all carried this news without even calling to ask whether it is true or not.”
He clarified that Asante Kotoko will bear the cost of maintaining the facility and keeping it in shape and that is why they won’t be paying any fees.
“We are not going to pay for the use of the venue and every revenue we get through our gate proceeds will come to us and nobody will get a percentage. We will maintain the facility as part of the agreements and that is why we are not paying for its use.”
Asante Kotoko’s first game at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw against Young Apostles on matchday 3 of the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
