The Ministry of Education has announced the release of GH¢50 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to facilitate the smooth conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and continue processes under the Basic Education Certificate Examination. This disbursement, as stated in the Ministry’s statement on Thursday, underscores the government’s dedication to meeting its financial commitments to WAEC, thereby ensuring uninterrupted operations and a seamless examination process.
In June this year, the government disbursed GH¢47 million to WAEC to support the administration of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
WAEC had initially received only GH₵2.3 million out of the outstanding debt of GH₵95.83 million, prompting the council to request a minimum of 50% of the total amount, equivalent to GH₵47.92 million, to enable them conduct examinations. Additionally, WAEC sought further funding to cover the costs of processing and releasing results.
