The Minister of Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has assured affected farmers in the major food production regions of Ghana that relief items will not be distributed based on political affiliations.
According to him, the government has set up a technical task team comprising development partners and other agencies to distribute the relief items to farmers affected by the dry spell.
Speaking at the Minister’s press briefing to highlight measures put in place to mitigate the current drought situation in affected regions on August 26, 2024, Dr. Amin Adam indicated that development partners, World Bank and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) who are assisting government to support the farmers are not looking at any political angle but their main motive is to make sure that the relief items get to the farmers as expected.
However, the funds will be channelled to farmers through cash transfer relief and input supply support with proper monitoring and evaluation. He added that the support from government and it’s partners is not politically motivated.
“During a visit to the affected farmers in their various farms with the Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, we did not go there with the idea of visiting farmers belonging to our political party, and how can we even identify them?, he asked. This is about hunger and there no way this can be politicized.
The media will be included during the distribution of the relief items to the affected farmers for them to witness if the distribution will be done based on political affiliation”, he added.
