The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to digitize land titling in Ghana if elected into power. Addressing the 3rd National Youth Conference on International Youth Day at Pentecost Convention Centre, Millennium City, Kasoa on Monday August 12, he emphasized the need to modernize Ghana’s land registration system to eliminate the stress and disputes associated with land ownership.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the prevalence of land disputes, multiple sale of the same land, and the challenges posed by stool lands, which are often left unregistered due to high costs. This, he noted, discourages investors and hinders development.
To address these issues, Dr. Bawumia promised to provide free land registration for chiefs and implement a digital system allowing individuals to check land titles remotely using their phones.
This will help eliminate land guard disturbances and multiple sale of the same land. By digitizing land titling, Dr. Bawumia aims to increase transparency, reduce disputes, and attract investors, ultimately driving economic growth and development in Ghana.
