The rapid migration of Ghanaians from Ghana to other countries to seek greener pastures has been described by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) as inevitable but can work for the good of Ghana’s economy.
He explained while speaking to Ghanaian youth at the NDC Townhall Conversations event held today, August 12, 2024 at the Bukom Boxing Arena that Ghanaians should be supported by the government to secure jobs in other countries for short-term employment periods. “There are countries like the Philippines who practice organized migration and earn 30 billion dollars; excess professionals who can’t be employed in Ghana can be sent to other countries that need workers under contract.”
This support he described as organized migration, will not only help Ghanaians secure jobs in other countries but also acquire more contemporary skills that can benefit Ghana’s workforce. “As I said Ghanaians cannot be stopped from travelling; migration is not a bad thing but it should be organized. Ghanaians will not only have enough to remit back home to Ghana but add on to their skills and come back to Ghana more prepared and than they were before.”
