The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has announced a curfew for four townships in Ghana, effective from Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
The affected areas are:
- Nkwanta Township in the Oti Region and Bunkpurugu Township in the North East Region: curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region: curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
- Bomaa Township in the Ahafo Region: curfew from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
The government has urged residents to exercise restraint and resolve conflicts through established channels.
The Ministry in a statement noted that a ban is in place prohibiting the carrying of arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons in these Townships and its surroundings.
It stressed that ayone found in possession of such items will face arrest and prosecution.
“Meanwhile, Govenment will like to reiterate that, there is a ban on all persons in Nkwanta Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons and persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement concluded.
