The Greater Accra Forestry Commission has disclosed that cases involving Chinese illegal miners are thrown out over difficulty in finding interpreters.
According to Deputy Accra Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, George Agbenowoshi, a lot of court cases have been ongoing for years with no end in sight because there are no Chinese language interpreters.
“Issues involving suspected Chinese illegal miners are thrown out of the court over difficulty in finding interpreters”.
The Forestry Commission has other issues that hamper their work, including the lack of funds for forest development including plantation activities.
“Logistics such as pickups for field operation activities hinder us to fight forest offenses such as galamsey activities that have been going on for a very long time. Illegal logging, illegal lumbering and chainsaw operation too”, he noted.
