Public Relations Officer for Okada Riders association, Solomon Akpanaba has disclosed that NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s intention of legalizing Okada Business is backed by research.
According to him, the research was conducted by the the University of Ghana, Legon, which indicates, there’s nothing that can be done to help Okada riders than ammending the law for them to operate.
Solomon Akpanaba added that the National Road safety Commission engaged stakeholders to deliberate whether or not Okada as a form of transportation will be beneficial to Ghanaians but nothing came out of it prior to 2020 election.
“Even though the Okada association were not invited as part of Stakeholders but all those who were represented concluded that the Okada business must be regularised”.
He added that, there is no law in this country preventing people to use motorcycles as a means of transportation but rather the law stipulates that a person can use motorcycle only when the person has license, road worthy certificate, riding and safety protective gears.
He made this known in an interview with Kwadwo Sefah- Danquah on the Happy fm 98.9 Morning show.
