The National Tanker Drivers Union has officially halted all driving services following the failure of the National Petroleum Authority to approve their proposed salary framework.
The Union made this announcement at the union Secretariat in Tema where they lamented the unfulfilled promises of the government regarding their proposed salaries.
The salary framework which was reportedly petitioned against by Oil Marketing Companies has forced the union to take these measures.
National Chairman of the union, George Nyaunu disclosed that petitions made since 2017 to the government have not received any proper attention, which led to their decision officially to make a direct petition to the President of Ghana. “We have been waiting for responses from NPA officials since 2017; we have filed complaints several times to the NPA but to no avail; on May 7 we made a petition directly to the President because this is a matter of livelihood.”
The framework which has still not been implemented despite a two week ultimatum has resulted in an indefinite strike, until further notice.
