Ghana’s Amputee national team, the Black Challenge, got off to a flying start in their quest to defend their African Cup of Nations title after thrashing Gambia 4-0 in their opening Group C match on Sunday, May 19th, 2024.
Hamza Mohammed, Yussif Yahaya, and Mubarak Mohammed were all on target for the Black Challenge, with Mohammed grabbing a brace to be named the Most Valuable Player of the match.
This victory comes after Ghana’s Amputee team travelled to Egypt to defend their AAFCON crown in a tournament rescheduled from April to May due to several teams failing to meet registration requirements.
Ghana, who are also the reigning African Para football games champions, will now set sights on their next match against Algeria, also on May 20th, 2024.
They will then face off against Kenya to complete their group stage fixtures. The Black Challenge are looking to win a record-extending third consecutive AAFCON title.
