President Akufo-Addo sends removal petition against Special Prosecutor to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
A petition filed by Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, has been forwarded to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, seeking the removal of current Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng from office.
Petition Filed on April 30, 2024 by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, accuses Special Prosecutor Agyebeng of Procurement Irregularities and Misconduct.
The petition, submitted to President Akufo-Addo, alleges that Mr. Agyebeng engaged in improper conduct relating to the purchase of vehicles for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and compromised the administration of justice through his dealings with judges.
Amidu’s Petition Accuses Special Prosecutor Agyebeng of Human Rights Violations and Abuse of Office
The petition alleges that Agyebeng’s office has been responsible for unlawful arrests and detentions, denial of citizens’ right to information, and irregular appointments. The impeachment move appears to be triggered by Agyebeng’s recent press conference, where he made contentious claims of judicial conspiracy against him.
Finally, the petition alleges that the Special Prosecutor unlawfully arrested and violated the rights of high-profile individuals, including Cecilia Dapaah and Prof. Frimpong Boateng, among others, demonstrating a pattern of abuse of power and disregard for individual rights.
