The Ministry of Railways Development has confirmed a collision between a new Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train and a stationary vehicle that occurred on the Tema Railway line during site acceptance testing on Thursday, April 18th.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the incident took place when the DMU train encountered an unauthorized vehicle obstructing the tracks at Km76+100 as it approached a curve.
Though the train applied emergency brakes, it could not come to a full stop before colliding with the stationary vehicle.
“It is important to note that the vehicle was unmarked and the location where it was found is not designated as an authorized level crossing,” the Ministry stated.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the front driver’s cab of the train sustained minor damage from the impact.
Authorities have been notified, and investigations are now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized vehicle’s presence on the rail tracks.
The new DMU train involved has been transported to a workshop for further evaluation and necessary repairs after the collision.
