Dr. Roberta Lamptey, a consultant family Physician and Diabetologist with KBTH and Co-Principal Investigator with CREATE Ghana *www.createghana.org?) has hinted on how Ghanaians consumed large quantities of sugar unknowingly.

According to her, Ghanaians consume larger quantities of grain foods and they end up consuming too much sugar than the body needs and that builds up in the bloodstream.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show, the Diabetologist said Kenkey which is a grain food contains too much sugar and eating one ball is equal to consuming 64 cubes of sugar.

Dr. Lamptey said diabetes and obesity are all caused by poor food choices hence the need for education.

“When we checked for I ball of Kenkey, we got about 1/5 of one olanka of maize and if you want to be charitable you will say 1/6.”

“This Kenkey I’m holding I bought it for 4 cedis and if you divide one olanka by 5, it means you have consumed 1 if you eat 1 ball of Kenkey,” she said on Happy FM.
