In the aftermath of the canceled Convention titled “Igniting the Voices of Africa,” distinguished speakers who were billed to address the event have come forward to address allegations and rumours regarding their association with the New Africa Foundation and its founder, Nana Kwame Bediako, a.k.a Freedom Jacob Caesar.
H.E. Dr. Arikana Chihombori, one of the prominent speakers from Zimbabwe, refuted claims that their presence at the event indicated support for Nana Kwame Bediako’s political ambitions. She said, “For those of you who are saying we are here to support his (Freedom Jacob Caesar’s) political ambitions, that’s a damn lie. My conversations with Nana Bediako have nothing to do with political alliances or ambitions.”
The speakers collectively expressed their dedication to contributing to the betterment of Africa and debunked any insinuations that their involvement in the convention was driven by political motives.
The statements from these distinguished figures aimed to clarify their role in the event and distance themselves from any perceived political affiliations.
However, they upheld Nana Kwame Bediako’s hope of igniting change in Ghana’s governance and politics through the New Africa Foundation.
Former Governor of Anambra State in Nigeria, Peter Obi, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “There’s nothing wrong if you have an ambition (to be President of Ghana).”
Peter Obi emphasized that their participation in the convention was centred around a shared commitment to fostering positive change and development in Africa, not political endorsements.
Renowned Kenyan lawyer and scholar, Prof. PLO Lumumba, also addressed the speculation surrounding their presence at the event. He asserted, “You should never apologize for the desire to serve your people,” emphasizing that supporting initiatives aimed at uplifting the African continent was a noble cause.
The convention, which faced an unexpected disruption on Sunday, prompted these speakers to address the public and media about their participation. As the controversy surrounding the New Africa Foundation and its founder continues, the statements from the speakers add another layer to the unfolding narrative.
