Medeama SC’s journey into the 2023/24 CAF Champions League has brought them face to face with a formidable opponent, record winners Al Ahly, in the group stage. The anticipation and pressure are palpable as the Ghanaian champions prepare for their game in the premier African club competition.
The team’s arrival in Cairo on Wednesday night marked a significant moment in their campaign, with the Al Salam Stadium set to host their clash against the Egyptian heavyweights on Saturday night.
Despite the tough challenge ahead, Patrick Akoto, the Public Relations Officer of Medeama SC, steered the narrative away from monetary concerns.
In a candid statement ahead of the crucial match, Akoto acknowledged the difficulty of facing Al Ahly but shifted the focus to the players’ dedication and pride. “The players at Medeama know what is at stake and are not focused on money,” he affirmed. It was a declaration that resonated with the essence of football beyond financial gains.
As the team geared up for their final training session on Friday evening, Akoto emphasized the unpredictable nature of football. “The match against Al Ahly is going to be very difficult. That is the truth. It is a very tough game but it is not impossible,” he conveyed to Happy FM.
He underlined the players’ collective ambition to prove themselves on the continental stage, asserting, “In football, everything can happen. These boys also want to demonstrate that they are the champions of Ghana. We don’t want to come and disgrace ourselves. We want to give off our best against a very resolute and top team like Al Ahly.”
The game will kick off on Saturday 25 November.
