Flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama has addressed the growing anticipation surrounding the party’s choice of a running mate for the 2024 elections.
In response to calls from traditional authorities and the Bono Traditional Council, Mr. Mahama emphasized the party’s commitment to a careful and systematic selection process.
Responding to calls from traditional authorities in Asunafo South, who specifically suggested MP Eric Opoku for the role, and echoing sentiments from the queen mother of the Bono Traditional Council advocating for a Bono native, Mahama emphasized the importance of adhering to established procedures.
He clarified, “What I will say is that, just like custom has it, our party also has processes to select candidates for various roles.” He outlined that the decision-making involves the Presidential candidate, National executives, and the Council of Elders.
While acknowledging the significance of the running mate’s role, Mahama urged party members and supporters to remain calm as the selection process unfolds.
“It is the Presidential candidate, National executives, and Council of Elders who come together to select a running mate. But that process will start next year. So keep praying for such a time,” he explained.
