Kumawood star Kojo Nkansah, Popularly known in the acting space as Lil Win, has disclosed how people in authority sabotaged his football career during his spell at Division One club, New Edubiase FC.
Lil Win signed a two-year deal with New Edubiase FC in 2021 after bagging an ambassadorial deal with the club but he claimed he joined the team in the interest of switching careers.
Lil Win, who is one of the most popular actors in the country, starring in over a hundred movies in Ghana, was expected to sell the club’s image out there due to his popularity.
However, His long-term absence from the sporting affairs of the club raised questions among Ghanaians and the football faithful.
Speaking in an Exclusive interview on Happy FM, the actor revealed that his decision to rally behind a political party during the elections made him an enemy, affecting his football career.
“News of me featuring for New Edubiase was everywhere because of what I was bringing on board. However, I really couldn’t pull my weight in the club because powerful people in authority tried to sabotage the CEO of New Edubiase. I supported a particular political party during the elections, which didn’t go down well with the other political party,” Lil Win told Joe Debrah host of Wamputu Sports.
“I was not a selfish player and I always tried to encourage my teammates and also registered lots of assists during games. Those who questioned my striking skills because I was not scoring enough do not understand football because I assisted a lot” he added.
New Edubiase won the Ghana FA Cup in 2012 but suffered relegation to second tier in 2016.
The Division one side are hoping to make a return to the topflight.
