Ghana and Nigeria will square off in the second edition of Skate Soccer on Sunday March 19 at the Independence Square, Accra.
This event is going to bring Skate Soccer on a whole new level from the previous event held at the La Pleasure Beach.
The large space of the Independence Square will help to accommodate more viewers and increase the playing area to 40m x 20m.
The main event is a 7-a-side game that will last for a total of 90 minutes. In this game, some of the best players in their respective countries will show the world the potential of the sport and the players playing it.
Several entrance coupons will be distributed which will serve to generate excitement for the event and even promote the game.
The event will also include dance and acrobatic performances, that will take place before the main event, which will be the much anticipated game between Ghana and Nigeria.
The winner of this game will take home the Trophy and several prices. We will also give out awards such as Most Valuable Player, Best Goal Keeper and Goal King, ensuring the game remains highly competitive as the previous ones.
Skate Soccer is a truly exciting sport and the first of its kind. The sport is played by physically challenged individuals especially polio survivors.
In this game, polio survivors sit on a slightly larger skateboard and play association football. The ball is controlled by their hands and the rules are very similar to regular association football.
The most appealing thing about this sport is the incredible talent that the players bring on the platform. They are able to overcome their challenges to play a sport that would leave spectators on the edge of their seats.
This sport has already generated quite a bit of interest. A year ago, friendly games were played on a weekly basis, on a smaller scale. At that point, Binatone collaborated with the organizers and supported the game for a year to train the players and build the teams.
