The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has assured all stakeholders and Ghanaians in general that the government will do everything in its power to ensure that the senior national football team, the Black Stars excel in this year’s FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar.
Described as the passion of the nation, the finance minister said football remains an integral part of the government’s agenda.
After a disastrous AFCON campaign in Cameroon earlier in the year, the Black Stars picked up the pieces to beat Nigeria over two legs in a crucial play off to book a ticket to Qatar.
An appearance in Qatar will also see the Black Stars play in the World Cup again after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia.
The finance minister emphasised the government’s desire to support the Black Stars before the World Cup while also calling on Ghanaians to show unflinching support to the national team. He made the remarks during the 2022 mid-year budget review on Monday, July 25.
“The Black Stars will represent our nation at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November 2022. Government will ensure that adequate preparation is made to facilitate outstanding performance at the tournament,” said.
“We encourage Ghanaians to continue to remember them in prayer and offer our support.”
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group H, where they will come up against Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
