National Organizer Hopeful and Communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibril has opined that the just ended delegates conference of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) proves that members of the party and to large extent Ghanaians no longer believe in extravagant promises from aspirants.
According to him, electoral aspirants would no longer have the opportunity to take advantage of electorates with mere promises with the intention of not honouring their words.
In an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9 FM’s “Epa Hoa Daben” socio-political talk show, the NDC representative indicated that “Ghanaians have learnt lifetime lessons from the Akufo-Addo led government after failing on all his promises.”
“For me I see the elections as a vote of no confidence on Nana Addo. Looking at Akufo-Addo’s movement in terms of the elections, he lost all together,” he added.
“Again when you follow the campaign, the very own NPP members have showed that they will no longer live with promise and fail candidates. Remember Abanga who is contesting for the Youth Organizer Abanga promised almost everything possible he could including insurance packages and other launch of initiatives. Fortunately for us as Ghanaians and unfortunately for him, the voters indicated that this was the same lies Ghanaians were told and are currently facing the consequences for it,” he stressed.
The NPP party went to the polls on Saturday, July 16, 2022, to choose its executive, which will help the party win the upcoming elections in 2024.
The following national executives will run the party for the next four years as they attempt to “break the 8” after nearly 24 hours of a fiercely contested election with over 6000 delegates and 45 candidates.
Mr Stephen Ntim becomes the new National Chairman of the NPP with Danquah Smith Buttey as Vice Chairman. Rita Asobayire wins the 2nd Vice Chairman position as Alhaji Masawuud is crowned as the 3rd Vice Chairman.
Mr Justin Frimpong Koduah overthrows John Boadu to occupy the General Secretary position while Henry Nana Boakye becomes the National Organiser. Kate Gyamfua is the National Women Organiser and Abdul Aziz Haruna Futah is National Nasara Coordinator. Salam Mohammed Mustafa leads as the new National Youth Organizer with the Treasurer as Dr Charles Dwamena.
