The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Cyril G.K Fayose has argued that if all were to conform to the acts of gay persons, the human species will be extinct.
The General Secretary believes that homosexual acts are not the natural ways humans can procreate and as such going by such cultural understanding will only put human lives and the continuation of life in jeopardy.
Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he explained: “Reproduction is one of the reasons why we were designed as male and female.
By arguing that we should move away from the natural way of doing it or the way it is designed to be done to this new cultural understanding beats the original purpose. If we should all go that direction it means that eventually our species will become extinct but we have to protect the species; we have to protect lives and those acts do not protect and support life as it is”.
Addressing the argument that culture is dynamic, hence LGBTQ+ could spell dynamism for the Ghanaian culture, Rev. Dr. Cyril G.K Fayose shared that while culture evolves, that must not be mistaken to mean that it is “sacrosanct”.
“Culture is evolving and as we move along, things change. We question our way of life and we end up with the best practice so we are not saying that we should do things just because our forefathers have done that in the past culturally. We look at it, critique it and come out with the best practices that we can have from that situation”.
The Speaker of Parliament received a private member bill from eight MPs that would expand on the current law that provides up to three years in prison for same-sex activity.
Reports has it that the new bill when passed will prohibit and criminalize advocacy, funding and act of LGBTQ+ while promoting conversion therapy programs seeking to “convert” people from homosexuality to heterosexuality.
