The leading water solutions provider in Ghana, Tovila Water Solutions, has resolved to provide treated water for residents in the Buasu Kwame Pinsang Electoral Area in the Wenchi Municipality.
This comes after Happy 98.9FM’s correspondent for the Bono Region, Augustine Adombire, reported that residents of the area have been compelled to share the only water source in the area with animals that flooded the area from neighbouring countries.
Technical Director at Tovila Water Solutions, Tony Lawal, speaking to Raymond Nyamador on the Happy Morning Show
known: “We have a division that is involved in monitoring towns or villages that have issues with water. We speak to a lot of these communities so we can get close to them. Through our monitoring efforts, we got to know of this information from the Happy Morning Show and that has brought our attention to the problem. So we have decided that we will follow up to see how we can help this community because if a community lacks water, there are more issues that come up”.
Tony furthered that the Company is exploring the various ways of helping the community. However, the main ways it seeks to help the community includes providing a water treatment machine and/or digging boreholes for the community after a laboratory test of the water in the area is conducted.
In addition to providing a water treatment machine, Tony has disclosed that Tovila will embark on a training exercise of some selected members in the community “on how to handle and maintain the water treatment machine to make it sustainable”.
Prior to the setting up of these initiatives, however, Tovila Water Solutions plans to undertake investigations to ascertain how dire the situation is and what the people really need.
Meanwhile, Tovila Water Solutions has called on other corporate bodies to support the initiatives to support these communities.
Tovila Water Solutions is a leading water treatment consultancy firm in Ghana, specializing in the field of research training and all water treatment and engineering services.
Background
On Monday, 8th February 2021, Happy FM’s Correspondent for the Bono Region, Augustine Adombire, reported that residents of Buasu Kwame Pinsang Electoral Area in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region have been compelled to share the only water source in the area with animals as these animals have flooded the area from neighbouring countries.
According to him, the sudden influx of cattle in the area started around December 2020 and has gotten worse, especially in the early months of 2021.
He further revealed that the people of Wenchi have taken active steps to resolve this situation but to no avail and have promised to take matters into their own hands.
Assembly Man’s Account
The account by Augustine was corroborated by the Assembly Man of the area, Emmanuel Denkyi, as he revealed that he had reported the menace caused by the cattle to the Wenchi Municipal Police. However, the Crime Officer he met told him to drag and arrest any of the Fulani herdsmen in charge of the cattle to the Police Station, knowing very well that he, the Assembly Man, could not effect an arrest.
The MCE’s denial
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Wenchi, Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie, has denied claims that residents share the only water source in the area with animals.
While he admits that there is an influx of cattle in the area, he states that this phenomenon is nothing new as he states that the influx of cattle in the area is as a result of the business agreement that the people of Wenchi have with herdsmen from the neighbouring countries.
