Dr Ato Arthur, head of the Local Government Service, has proposed that a sports desk be set up at the Ministry to help in the scouting and recruitment of talents for the country.
According to him, the Local Government Service also have a role to play in the development of sports in the country.
He disclosed to Happy 98.9FM that talks are already underway between the various stakeholders to see to the set-up of a sports desk at the Local Government Service.
Dr Ato Arthur, who was the Chairman for the Swearing in ceremony for the newly elected executives of GHALCA said, “We also have a role to develop football in Ghana. That is what myself, GHALCA chairman, GFA president, Minister-designate for Youth and Sports have been holding talks about.
“Within the Local Government Service, we can dedicate a chair for Sports. We will appoint an existing staff to be on that Sports desk. Then the Ghana Education Service which has Sports Officers can hunt for talent at the local level.
“We have declined over the years because the likes of Abedi Pele and those who helped in 1983 are all fading out. This will help and within five to 10 years our football will revive. That is why Local Government Service wants to partner football people come together and set up this Sports desk”, he concluded.
