The Ghana Medical Association has urged Ghanaians to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols in order to protect health workers in the various hospitals.

According to him, when more people get infected with the disease, it becomes the responsibility of health workers to care for these persons.

Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he furthered: “When people get infected eventually it is the hospital they come to and come and infect us. That is why we are pleading that people should follow protocols. If we are to look on unconcerned it will also come to us. People are still getting infected; that is the truth of the matter”.

He shared that while he cannot give the specific number of health workers who are infected, he is certain that “healthcare workers are being infected and the number is increasing”.

In his 22nd address to the nation on measures against COVID-19, the President stated that he had observed with distress the disregard for safety protocols by some Ghanaians.

He has thus directed the IGP to allow the Police Service enforce the safety protocols such as the wearing of masks at all places and public transports.

“I have instructed the Inspector General of Police to direct officers, men and women of the Police Service to ensure the rigorous enforcement of the law on mask wearing at all public places and in public transport. They are also to ensure the closure of all night clubs, pubs, cinemas and beaches that may be operating in defiance of the law. They will be assisted by the other security agencies, if need be”, the President stated.
