Former Mainz 05 midfielder, Nana Darteh Bediako, has revealed to Happy 98.9 FM that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave him the opportunity to play for the Bundesliga side.
Jurgen Klopp made over 300 appearances starting and finishing his professional career at FSV Mainz 05 in Germany’s second tier.
He took over as head coach in 2001 and guided the club where he had spent 11 years as a player to promotion in his third season in charge.
According to Darteh Bediako, Klopp was a teammate before he was handed the managerial role thus he gave him more game time at the club.
“I played with current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at Mainz 05 before he was named the manager. The first year I joined the team, he was a player and later in the season he became the manager after the coach was sacked”, Nana Darteh Bediako told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM.
“He is the one who managed me at Mainz. He gave me a chance to play professional football here in Germany. Unfortunately, I have lost contact with him but we do meet anytime he comes to Mainz”, he added.
The former Boafoakwa player played seven seasons for Mainz O5 before he joined FC Nottingen in 2005.
