The Public Relations Officer for the National Sports Authority, Charles Amofah has disclosed to Happy Sports that talks are ongoing to move some of the clubs to the Legon Sports Stadium and other venues in order to ease pressure at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of the new season.
Four Ghana Premier League teams have confirmed to use the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue for the 2020/21 season.
The four teams, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Inter Allies and Great Olympics will have to pay GHC 20,000 in order to use the facility according to the new commercial rate released by the National Sports Authority (NSA) for Category B matches.
Charles Amofah told Happy Sports that the NSA is engaging some of the clubs in order to move their home games to other venues from the Accra Sports Stadium especially with teams that are not able to generate enough funds on match days.
“There are times we only get GHC 400 and GHC500 cedis after matches but a lot goes into preparation before these games such as electricity, water, grounds men and many others. We spend about GHC 10,000 on each match”, he told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM.
“In the category A match we are able to break even after the deductions to take care of our cost. Sometimes we are not even able to pay security and other volunteers after some matches in category B. So we are in talks with some of the clubs to move some of the games under Category B and C to the University of Ghana or even Carl Reindorlf to ease the pressure at the Accra Sports Stadium”, he added.
