Ghana attacker Andre Ayew has said that he rates the Black Stars as one of the two favourites to win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars have not won the continental trophy since 1982 and Ayew admits the 2017 tournament in Gabon will be “one of the toughest” in recent memory. Ghana will tackle Uganda, Mali and Egypt in Group D.
The 26-year-old very nearly claimed the AFCON trophy in 2015, but Ghana were beaten by Ivory Coast on penalties in the final.
“We are in a difficult group and to be honest we are among the two favourites in the tournament,” Ayew said, as quoted by GSN.
“I think every tournament becomes harder and harder. We can see that all the teams are becoming stronger, so we need to keep our heads high and be confident and go and do our job.”
Ghana will begin their campaign against Uganda in Port-Gentil on January 17.
