The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged supporters of the party and Ghanaians in general to remain calm and focused and await the outcome of the 2016 polls.
“We’ve been through this before and we should be able to go through it again,” he impressed on a large number of journalists and party supporters at his private residency in Accra.
“I think we are duty-bound to support her [EC Chair] and give her that time so that we have a pronouncement that is devoid of controversy and difficulty.
He said, it was clear that the decision of the EC would ultimately be for the NPP having been convinced by the overwhelming votes for the party that had led to the party winning 49 more seats in parliament.
Nana Akufo-Addo was full of praise for the peaceful and orderly nature by which Ghanaians went about the voting exercise.
He described the polls as an exhibition of maturity by the totality of Ghanaians in the eyes of the international community.
“The eyes of the people of the world are on us and we must act as Ghanaians who understand our sense of worth and dignity,” he said.
The NPP, he said was confident of winning a famous and historic victory with a number of policies, programmes and competent persons that were poised to change the destiny of Ghanaians for the best.
That, he said, would require the support of all Ghanaians regardless of their geographic location, political or religious backgrounds or affiliations.
He paid glowing tribute to his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife as well as many others who worked tirelessly to bring about the change Ghanaians needed.
Earlier, hundreds of people became apprehensive by the delay of the EC in announcing the final results of the polls.
Some had threatened to storm the headquarters of the EC to demand answers but were impressed upon by party bigwigs to exercise restraint.
