One dead, five critically injured in NDC, NPP clash at Chereponi

One person has been confirmed dead while 14 others sustained injuries, including five in critical condition, following clashes between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Chereponi constituency of the Northern Region.

The incident occurred on Monday night after the final rallies of the two parties in the area amidst gunshots.
According to the Police, beside the confirmed death, five out of 14 people who got injured are in critical condition.
The clashes also led to the burning down of some houses in the area amidst gunshots.
The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the story to Graphic Online said a police and military team from Yendi has been deployed to Chereponi to calm the situation.
He said no arrest had been made yet.
ASP Tetteh also denied earlier media reports that it was two persons that had been confirmed dead as a result of the clashes.
