Footballer Ched Evans went on trial today accused of raping a teenage girl.
The 27-year-old striker is alleged to have attacked the ‘drunk’ 19-year-old at a Premier Inn near Rhyl, North Wales, in May 2011.
The former Manchester City and Sheffield United star, who has made 13 appearances for Wales, denies the charge against him.
Today, jurors heard how Evans raped the ‘drunk’ teenager in a £92 ground-floor hotel room before leaving through a fire escape door.
They were told that the receptionist heard people having sex inside the room, and that the girl was left with bruises on her skin.
The jury also heard that Evans had previously been convicted of raping the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
However, his conviction was later quashed by the Court of Appeal.
The footballer’s retrial at Cardiff Crown Court is expected to last two weeks and is being presided over by Mrs Justice Nicola Davies.
