There's No Need to Name Tamale Stadium After Aliu Mahama- Former Deputy Sports Minister

Reports are rife that the Tamale Sports Stadium is going to be named after the late former vice president of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama but former deputy Youth and Sports minister, Hon. Joseph Yamin is averse to this consideration.
Hon. Yamin in an interview with Happy FM quizzed whether as a nation, we can’t get any other thing to name Alhaji Aliu Mahama after than the stadium.
“Can’t we get anything apart from the Tamale Sports Stadium to remember our former vice president Aliu Mahama with? In terms of sports I’m not sure we have any track record about Aliu Mahama’s involvement in sports and we have a lot of sports personalities who have contributed their quota in sports to the country and it will be prudent to name the stadium after them rather. If you look at the people who have been named after some of the stadia in the country like Ohene Gyan, Baba Yara etc, they have made their marks in sports.” Yamin argued.
He further stated that, no one can remember Aliu Mahama’s involvement in sports in the country.
“It is true that he can be attributed to RTU but how many of our sports personnel are aware of any contribution to that. I strongly believe that we can honour him but will naming the Tamale Sports Stadium be the appropriate thing to do? Are we saying that in Tamale where he comes from, we don’t have any edifice there that can be named after him? We can talk about the airport, we can talk about the hospital, these are all national assets that we can named him after.” Yamin told Happy FM.
