The Deputy National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Joshua Akamba has questioned why the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) should allow people to operate Khebab selling joints near a gas filling station.
He said it beats his imagination how the petroleum regulatory authority should allow such activities near a gas station in the country.
He said in other jurisdictions gas stations are operated far from the homes and why is the NPA allowing operation of such businesses near the residential areas.
But the NPA and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to issue permit to people operate gas stations near people in the city.
Mr. Akamba made this comment reacting to the recent gas explosion that saw seven people losing their lives and injuring several others at Atomic Junction area when he appeared as a panellist on the Happy FM’s afternoon socio –political show hosted by Kwame Affrifa Mensah in Accra.
He said it is about time the regulatory agencies are seen to be working to ensure the safety of all in the country.
According to him, it is about time the regulatory agencies crack the whip to ensure sanity in the system.
The explosions are one too many and its fast becoming a major cause of worries to well- meaning Ghanaians.
