Legendary South African musician Yvonne Chaka Chaka has chosen the song Kana Uchema as the piece she wishes to be remembered by after her passing.
The Princess of Africa struck an emotional chord with a captivated audience at the 2024 edition of African Legends Night, held on Saturday, October 5, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, where she made this heartfelt request.
She explained that Kana Uchema, a song meaning “My Mama Land” holds a special place in her heart due to the profound lessons conveyed in each verse and its personal resonance with her life. “I am going to sing this song, which is my favourite. It’s a song from Zimbabwe; when I die, I want this song to be sung for me,” she stated.
The African Music legend in exclusive interview with YTV Ghana indicated that the song establishes the connection between mankind and the earth. She emphasized the need for mankind to take care of the land and uphold it as a personal responsibility.
