2024 victory is assured if Bawumia chooses me as running mate – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea announces Bawumia's running mate will be revealed by the end of June

Former Okaikwei South Member of Parliament, Nana Akomea, has expressed unwavering confidence in securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections if chosen as the running mate by newly elected flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Nana Akomea, who served as the campaign spokesperson for Dr Bawumia during the flagbearer contest, highlighted his qualifications and capabilities in a recent interview. He stated, “If he chooses me, victory is assured. But it would be unfortunate if the selection of a running mate degenerates into chaos.”

Concerns over potential discord during the selection process have emerged, prompting Nana Akomea to urge aspirants for the running mate position to conduct themselves responsibly to maintain party harmony.

The Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC) emphasized the importance of allowing Vice President Bawumia sufficient time and space to recover from the contest and make an informed decision in consultation with the party.

Meanwhile, tensions are escalating within the NPP as Members of Parliament vie for the coveted running mate position following Dr. Bawumia’s recent victory in the flagbearership election.

Intense discussions and coalitions emerged among ruling party MPs on the first day of parliamentary sessions after the flagbearership announcement, with names like Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu, and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum circulating as potential choices.

Parliamentarians, speaking to JoyNews, stressed the importance of granting Dr Bawumia the necessary space to make a thoughtful decision without undue pressure, highlighting the significance of unity within the party during this critical phase.
