President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC), is optimistic Ghana will be ready to host the first African Para Games in September.
Interacting with the media in a general inspection tour ahead of the Games, Mr. Deen explained that purpose of the tour was to give journalists in the country the opportunity to assess progress made so far in the preparation.
“We invited you ( journalists) for a general inspection of the four facilities that we intend to use for the games. Hosting the games in Accra is doable and we are ready should the games even commence today. We know there are lots of questions asked if we can host the games and that is why you are here to have your own assessment of progress made so far”.
The tour took the media to places like the Accra Sports Stadium, Trust Sports Emporium, Eden Heights Sports Complex, and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium at Legon.
Mr Ignatius Elletey, Public Relations Officer and member of the National Paralympics Committee(NPC) of Ghana, who led the tour acknowledged that the facilities like the Accra Sports Stadium need some renovation but Eden Heights Sports Complex is ready with modern facilities like an Astroturf football field, tartan tracks, ultra-modern sports hall, fitness center among others.
The events to be competed when Ghana hosts the games are Para Athletics, Para Powerlifting, Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Goalball, Sitting Volley, and Amputee football.
The 2023 Paralympic Games is scheduled for September 3rd to 12th 2023.
