Ghanaian Olympian, Christian Nsiah has urged the Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 Africa Games to consider staging the athletics event in the Ashanti Region, Kumasi.
Ghana is set to host the event in 2023 with the government appointing members to serve on the Local Organizing Committee as preparations for the event begins.
According to the former athlete, Kumasi is the home of athletics in Ghana and the people in the region love the sport thus the need to stage the athletics event in the region.
He explained that hosting the athletics event in Kumasi for the Africa Games will be patronized by the people in the region and also encourage the athletes to perform better since they will get enough support.
“In the Ashanti Region, Athletics is number one and I wish the government will consider and host that event in the Region for the All Africa Games. The love people have for athletics in Kumasi is unconditional and that is evident in the during the inter-schools competition. The region also produces a lot of athletes.
“So they should host the games there and it will encourage the athletes to perform well because of the support they will receive”, he added.
He praised Ghana Athletics Association president Professor Francis Doudou for the support given to Ghanaian athletes to secure scholarships and also get other opportunities abroad.
