The Central African Republic have been hit with a huge blow ahead of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification tie as captain Geoffrey Kondogbia is reportedly injured.
Kondogbia, picked up the injury in his second league appearance for Olympique Marseille against FC Metz according to a report from French nationwide sport devoted outlet L’Équipe.
The duration of his injury rules him out of the crucial qualifier against Ghana which the Central African Republic needs to win to secure a spot at next year’s AFCON in the Ivory Coast.
Ghana, on the other hand, needs just a draw to wrap up its qualification to the tournament.
Central African Republic will take on Ghana in the last round of the qualification games at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
French born Kondogbia starred for France at the Under 20 level by joining the likes of Paul Pogba, Samuel Umtiti and Alphonse Areola to win the 2015 World Cup.
