2023 AFCON Qualifiers: I’m looking forward to the atmosphere in Kumasi – Chris Hughton

Newly appointed Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, says he can’t wait to embrace the massive atmosphere the Baba Yara stadium presents during Black stars games.

Hughton was appointed in February, succeeding Otto Addo who was in charge of the Black Stars from March last year until their group-stage elimination at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Hughton who has led Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Nottingham Forest, expressed his excitement at the new opportunity as head coach of Ghana.

“To represent Ghana and the Black Stars as the head coach is something I am incredibly proud of. It’s something I’ll give everything to make the team as successful as possible. I’ll give everything to make sure the communication and relationship I have with this association and the supporters goes as planned for the betterment of the Black Stars

“Our game is about support – from the association, but mostly, the support from the huge array of fans we have, and that starts with a very difficult game at Kumasi on Thursday,” Hughton told the media at his unveiling.

Hughton’s first assignment with Ghana will be in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Angola on March 23. The match will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Four days later, the two teams will meet again in Luanda for the second leg of their qualifying tie
