With just a few days to the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Happy Sports has been following up on Black Stars players likely to make Coach Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the tournament.
Coach Otto Addo submitted his provisional squad to FIFA last Friday with reports of 35 players set to be invited to camp to begin preparations.
Addo will submit Ghana’s official squad to FIFA by November 13, just one week before the tournament begins.
FIFA will then announce each nation’s official squad the following day.
The Dortmund trainer is expected to announce his final squad of 26 players as soon as November 10.
Callum Hudson-Odoi will not be part of the Black Stars team for the World Cup due to issues with his nationality switch.
The Bayer Leverkusen winger has already given the green light to GFA officials to begin the process for his switch but it’s uncertain whether the switch will be complete before the World Cup kicks off on November 20.
Hudson-Odoi is available to play for Ghana on November 17 but the uncertainty surrounding his nationality switch has led the GFA to halt the process.
Joseph Paintsil (Genk), Abdul Salis Samed (Lens), Mubarak Wakaso (Eupen), Bernard Tekpetey (Ludogorets), Samuel Owusu (Cukaricki), Jeffrey Schlupp (Crystal Palace) and Patrick Pfeiffer (Darmstadt) have been named in the provisional squad submitted by Coach Otto Addo according to our source.
Ghana will begin preparations in the first week of November, but a full house is expected in the second week, when all leagues will draw to a halt.
Ghana is scheduled to play one pre-World Cup match, against Switzerland, on November 17 before the World Cup kicks off three days after.
Ghana’s tournament will kick off on November 24 with a crucial match against Group H favourites Portugal.
The Black Stars will then play South Korea on November 28 and Uruguay in their final group match on December 2.
