2022 Commonwealth Games: GOC president Ben Nunoo Mensah impressed with Team Ghana’s performance

Ghana Olympic Committee president Ben Nunoo Mensah says he is impressed with the performance of Team Ghana at this year’s Commonwealth Games.

The competition came to a close on Monday August 9, 2022 with Team Ghana winning five medals in the competition.

Wahid Omar won bronze in boxing, Joseph Commey and Abraham Mensah both picked up a silver medals in the Boxing event. Joe Paul won bronze in the 200m final and Deborah Acquah secured a bronze medal in the Women’s Long Jump event.

An improvement from the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games where the country won just one medal.

Speaking in an interview on Happy Sports, Ben Nunoo Mensah said he is delighted with the achievement by Team Ghana at the competition.

“Our participation in this competition has been one of the most successful in recent times. As a leader, I am looking for the progress of the country. If four years ago we won just one medal and this time around we have five medals, I think we have made progress and let’s focus on the positives and not just the challenges.

“I’m not totally disappointment with the target and expectations, I had going into this competition.

The Commonwealth Games International president also urged the government to pay attention to the athletes ahead of the 2023 Africa Games.

“If we pay attention to these athletes they will perform”.

“There are a lot we need to do in the upcoming African Games”, he concluded.
