After the December 7, 2020 general election, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, after losing the presidential race filed a petition to challenge the declaration of President Akufo-Addo as President-elect.
According to him, the election was fraught with many discrepancies and he believes none of the presidential candidates in the election polled the 50% + 1 votes to make one President of Ghana.
The petition which will be addressed at the Supreme Court of Ghana, will be heard by a seven-member panel.
Members of the panel, as selected by Chief Justice are:
His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah – Chief Justice
His Lordship Justice Yaw Appau
His Lordship Justice Samuel K. Marful-Sau
His Lordship Justice Nene Abayaateye Ofoe Amegatcher
His Lordship Justice Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey
Her Ladyship Justice Mariama Owusu
Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo
In the next 42 days, the former president will get clarity on whether his reliefs as contained in the petition will be granted by the Apex Court or not.
The petitioner, ex-President Mahama, is seeking a re-run of the December 7, 2020 elections between himself and President Akufo-Addo.
